Food Pantry Support Specialist

Summary & Allowable Service Activities

Join our team as a Food and More Corps Member and make a tangible impact in the fight against food insecurity in our community. As part of the Community Action Food Bank and partner pantries, you’ll serve individually and collaboratively to ensure that families and individuals have access to nutritious food and essential resources. This role is ideal for those who are passionate about serving their community, thriving in a team environment, and being committed to making a difference.

Member Responsibilities

• Welcome participants, collect necessary data and efficiently distribute food items through our food bank program.

• Assist in preparing the food distribution area, ensuring that received food is sorted, stocked, and stored appropriately for distribution.

• Maintain daily stock on shelves to guarantee an ample food supply for families to select from.

• Prepare food boxes for distribution, ensuring that each box is carefully assembled and meets the needs of the recipient service member.

• Collaborate in the preparation of food boxes to be distributed to schools on a weekly basis, contributing to the nourishment of students in need.

• Uphold food quality standards through diligent sorting activities and promptly communicate any issues to the supervisor.

• Participate in additional training and enrichment opportunities as assigned, further enhancing your skills and knowledge in food security and community service.

Qualifications

• Passion for addressing food insecurity and serving vulnerable populations.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage participant intake, maintain records, and facilitate relationships effectively.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with participants, colleagues, and community partners.

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when necessary.

• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments.

• Commitment to completing a specific term of service and fulfilling a minimum number of service hours, as required for the position.

Garden Support Specialist

Are you passionate about horticulture and community engagement? Join our team as a Gardens Support Specialist and play a vital role in maintaining our gardens to support food security initiatives in our community. As part of the Food and More Corps team at Community Action Food Bank and partner pantries, you’ll make a tangible impact by ensuring that families have access to fresh, nutritious produce. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, collaborating with volunteers, and contributing to a sustainable food system.

Member Responsibilities

• Garden Upkeep: Maintain gardens through planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting crops. Ensure cleanliness, organization, and visual appeal of garden areas.

• In-Warehouse Food Handling: Safely handle and store harvested produce within warehouse facilities. Adhere to food safety guidelines and maintain inventory records.

• Supervision of Volunteers: Coordinate and supervise volunteers engaged in garden-related activities. Provide guidance and support to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

• Travel: Travel to different garden sites as required. Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a reliable vehicle for transportation.

• Proactive Approach: Anticipate garden maintenance needs and take proactive measures to address issues promptly. Implement sustainable practices to enhance garden productivity.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for travel to garden sites.

• Proven experience in in-warehouse food handling and knowledge of food safety protocols.

• Strong horticultural knowledge and ability to perform gardening tasks effectively.

• Excellent communication skills to supervise and work collaboratively with volunteers.

• Ability to work independently and demonstrate a proactive approach to garden maintenance.

• Flexibility to adapt to varying tasks and work in different weather conditions.

• Formal education or certification in horticulture, agriculture, or related field (preferred).

• Previous experience in supervising volunteers or community engagement initiatives (preferred).

Financial Education Specialist

As a CASFB Financial Education Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in empowering individuals and families by providing comprehensive financial education. Utilizing the Community Action curriculum, you’ll guide clients in developing essential financial skills and fostering positive economic visions for their futures. Working closely with the program director, you’ll ensure a high level of client engagement and contribute to the overall success of our financial education initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity for financial professionals to give back to the community while gaining valuable experience and making a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Member Responsibilities

• Implement the Community Action curriculum to deliver financial education sessions to clients, covering topics such as budgeting, saving, debt management, and financial planning.

• Engage clients in interactive and informative discussions, providing guidance tailored to their needs and circumstances.

• Collaborate with the program director to develop and enhance financial education materials and resources, ensuring relevance and effectiveness.

• Facilitate group workshops and one-on-one counseling sessions, fostering a supportive and empowering learning environment for clients.

• Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes, adhering to program requirements and reporting guidelines.

• Participate in additional training and enrichment opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge in financial education and counseling.

Qualifications

• Passion for financial education and a desire to empower individuals and families to achieve financial stability and success.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences.

• Experience in counseling, public speaking, teaching/tutoring, and/or education, preferably in a financial or related field.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.

• Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with colleagues and community partners to achieve common goals.

• Flexibly adapt to changing priorities and client needs with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.

• Commitment to completing at least 300 service hours and fulfilling all program requirements.

Social Media Specialist

Join our dynamic team as a Service Member Social Media Engagement Specialist, where your passion for social media will play a key role in fostering a positive and engaging online community for our service members. You will be the voice behind our social media channels, creating meaningful interactions, providing support, and ensuring a vibrant online presence.

Member Responsibilities

• Content Creation: Develop compelling and relevant content for various social media platforms to enhance engagement and interaction with our service members.

• Community Building: Actively engage with the service member community, respond to inquiries, and foster positive discussions to strengthen the online community.

• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute social media strategies aligned with organizational goals and initiatives.

• Monitoring and Analysis: Monitor social media channels for trends, discussions, and opportunities. Analyze data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of engagement strategies.

• Education and Outreach: Provide guidance and support to service members on effective and responsible use of social media. Conduct outreach initiatives to enhance awareness and participation.

• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, communications, and customer support, to ensure a unified and consistent brand voice across all channels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, or related field (preferred).

• Proven experience in social media management and community engagement.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Familiarity with AmeriCorps culture and an understanding of service member needs.

• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
