Birthday Highlights

On May 17th, Community Action Services and Food Bank (CASFB) marked an exciting milestone—58 years of serving Utah, Wasatch and Summit counties with compassion, dedication, and a mission to fight poverty.

We celebrated with over 300 attendees at our community party, making it one of CASFB’s largest events ever! The event wouldn’t have been the same without our amazing food trucks who rent commercial kitchen space through our Potluck Kitchen program. Guests also enjoyed our bounce houses, free portraits, and a special guest appearance by FM100.3’s Rebecca Cressman.

It was more than a party—it was a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and how much more we can do together.

Thank you to our 50+ local business partners who donated to our giveaways and to the 13 guest organizations who brought joy and laughter with their games and activities.

When we stand together as a community, there really is no place like home. We left the celebration reenergized for the rest of the year, and we hope you did too!

Reflecting on the Past 6 Months of Impact

The last half-year has been one of momentum and meaningful progress:

Feed Utah Food Drive – Each year to continue fighting hunger, we collaborate with organizations on food drives. This year we were part of the Statewide Feed Utah Food Drive, Stamp Out Hunger, and Scouting for Food. Thanks to our community for staying active in supporting these food drives to support your local neighbors in need. Every can and item represents hope–a little goes a long way!

Warming Centers –First Season Completed: In April, we officially wrapped up our first season of operating warming centers for individuals experiencing homelessness.

This new initiative provided life-saving warmth, safety, and resources during the harshest winter months—and we’re only getting started.

New Sponsorship Program Launch In early 2025, we proudly rolled out our CASFB Sponsorship Program, giving organizations a way to invest in our mission at a deeper level.

Additionally, while there is much to celebrate, there are also growing concerns. CASFB was recently featured in the Daily Herald to share more details of what we are seeing in our communities. We were also featured in March about the potential for federal funding cuts—which could significantly affect the services we provide.

“We’re seeing greater food insecurity and rising costs,” said our Chief Executive Office Karen McCandless. “Losing federal support would force us to make hard decisions about how many people we can serve.”

This news only strengthens our resolve—and reminds us how critical local support is to our mission.

What’s Coming Next

We have also been busy behind the scenes—and we can’t wait to share what’s coming.

From new initiatives to exciting community partnerships, upgraded pantry programs, and volunteer innovations, we’re entering a new chapter of growth and transformation at CASFB.

As a result, these changes are designed to better serve our clients, empower our volunteers, and create long-term impact in our service areas.

Stay tuned for our next blog post, where we’ll reveal major updates that will shape the future of our organization.

The birthday bash was a celebration of the past 58 years, but the real gift is what we can do in the future—together.

With this in mind here is how you can help:
