Facts about Hunger
One in four Utah children under age 12 live in families where there is food insecurity, according to the Census Department. In the Mountainland Region (which includes Utah, Wasatch and Summit Counties) this equates to more than 18,000 children. Of those served by the Community Action Food Bank last year, more than 6,500 were children.
The Community Action Food Bank, located in Provo, is a food warehousing and distribution system that provides more than 1 million meals each year through the distribution of more than 18,000 emergency food boxes to low-income families living in Utah, Wasatch and Summit Counties. Food packages are given to families through food pantries located in several local communities.
Every one dollar donated to the Food Bank generates 17 pounds of food.
